Jose Borrero, 34, of York City, died at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital on Friday, Dec. 9. He was identified by the Dauphin County Coroner's office.
Borrero's autopsy is scheduled at Harrisburg Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 12, according to a statement from the coroner's office shared by the Dauphin County Communication's Director Jennifer Fitch.
He was initially found in critical condition following a hit and run on Wednesday night, city police announced the following morning.
Harrisburg police were called to a report of "a pedestrian struck by a passing vehicle" at 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 6, as detailed in a release by the department.
When they arrived in the area of South Cameron and Paxton streets they learned that Borrero "had entered into the roadway, attempting to assist with a broken down vehicle," as stated in the release.
That's when another car drove through the intersection striking Borrero "and continued on without stopping," the police said.
Borrero was taken to "a local hospital and was last known to be in critical condition," according to the police on Dec. 7, but on Dec. 11, the police released the following statement:
"The pedestrian struck in this incident has died as a result of their injuries. The Harrisburg Police have located the vehicle and driver involved in this incident, and the investigation is ongoing at this time."
The Harrisburg Police Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate this hit-and-run.
